Volunteer Opportunities

Visiting Nurse invites you to be a Hospice Volunteer!

Visiting Nurse is proud of its well-established volunteer program and is pleased to offer the skills and services of 140 trained and dedicated volunteers who serve the many needs of families and patients who are nearing the end of life. Volunteers help patients in their homes and nursing homes and may spend time reading to patients, running errands or giving time off to the patient’s caregiver. Volunteer support is also needed in the 14-bed in-patient Hospice Home. Duties include patient support activities and clerical support. Visiting Nurse has a special need for evening and weekend volunteers, and garden volunteers are needed to help maintain the Seasons of Life garden adjacent to Hospice Home.

Specialized Volunteer Services:

Watchful Passage
Volunteers stay with patients at the time of imminent death.

We Honor Veterans Program
Vet-to-vet volunteer program to recognize veterans' special end-of-life needs.

Pet Peace of Mind Program
Volunteer pet care services for hospice patients who are unable to care for their pets.

Volunteer Training & Education

After an interview, comprehensive volunteer training prepares incoming volunteers for this fulfilling work.  Volunteer training is generally offered 2-3 times a year. Our volunteer program is well established and provides ongoing guidance and support through a full-time Volunteer Coordinator.

Many people are motivated to volunteer because of a positive experience with hospice. For your care and protection, we ask that inquiring volunteers wait at least a year if they have recently lost a loved one.
